Sponsored by the Military Missions Network
Hosted and Co-sponsored by First Baptist Church of Norfolk, VA

A conference for individuals connected to military community churches and ministries which are proactively engaged in reaching out, discipling, and ministering to military and which have a desire to provide servant leadership in the domain of military ministry.

This highly interactive conference will focus on peer-to-peer dialogue, exploration of best practices, and building relationships with others who have a similar passion to minister to military as they travel the globe. A primary purpose of the conference is to identify and bring together innovative churches strategically engaged in missional military ministry. Particular attention will be directed toward the benefits of networking and partnering with others to most effectively minister to the military.  Conference Leadership will involve a large pool of individuals with extensive military and/or ministry experience.

Who should attend?
This conference is for pastors, staff, church ministry leaders, denominational leaders, chaplains, and para-church ministry leaders.

Presentations from Think Tanks
The conference is built around interaction and sharing from Think Tanks. Participants will be tasked to explore and discuss major issues and the best out-of-the-box practical solutions for churches and ministries. Think Tanks will be made up of pastors, staff, military ministry coordinators, chaplains and para-church ministry leaders.

Think tanks will center on the following topics: disciple-making, issues and solutions in military ministry, partnership paradigms and prototypes, social networking and media, relationship building along common pathways, women’s ministry, 18-20 something’s ministry, church planting, leadership, and missions and ministry opportunities beyond military service.

Small Groups
Because of the interactive nature of this conference, significant time will be spent in small groups. The goal will be to involve all participants and to encourage each participating church and ministry in the development of their missional ministry strategy.

Best Practices
Examples of best practices will be shared throughout the conference. In addition to what is shared, participating churches and ministries will have the opportunity to provide resources, materials, and information related to their military ministry efforts.

Comments about the Flagship Church Conference

Terry & Patti Williams, Frazer Memorial Methodist Church, Montgomery AL
My wife and I attended the Flagship Church Conference representing our home church, Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. We found the commitment to spreading Christ’s love to the military community paramount among the numerous churches and para-church ministries present. My wife and I were able to attend presentations, small group discussions, networking dinners, and case studies, as well as meeting local Chaplains. We even toured a Navy ship at Naval Station Norfolk. The methods other churches are using to minister to military in their congregations are invaluable in helping Frazer expand its own military ministry in the Montgomery area. We wholeheartedly recommend the conference to any organizations looking to find the best and most efficient ways to minister to military members and their families.

Bill Law, Immanuel Bible Church, Springfield, VA
As someone involved in our Connect Ministry to military families, I participated in the Flagship Church Conference representing Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield, VA, a church with a large number of military families, mostly consisting of mid- to senior-grade officers who serve in headquarters. Although our target community is distinct from those near training bases and installations with large units that deploy together, I got many ideas about how we can strengthen our ministry. The Conference was very well planned and executed. I particularly benefited from small-group exercises and was encouraged by presentations from active-duty chaplains. This was a good forum for local churches to interface with para-church organizations that focus on military missions and ministry.

The Flagship Conference was an awesome learning experience for me.  To be in the presence of God and so many people with the same desire to serve our servicemembers was wonderful!  Along with military representatives and a large population of retired military folks, we were honored to have two widows of servicemen that had sacrificed it all for us in Iraq, and a father of a soldier that had given his life for our country as well.  To be among these inspiring people was truly amazing.  Through think tanks and small group presentations, I learned of the variety of ways that military ministries around the country serve their military members and their families and learned how my church's military ministry could serve our military members and their families even better.  This conference was packed with information and lively conversations!  I would recommend this conference to all churches that have a heart to serve their military!

Believers being in “one place and in one accord” reminds us of the Book of Acts. I felt that kindred spirit and mind as I participated in the Flagship Church Conference on Military Missions and Ministry. Common to each participant was the desire to share information and ask questions about ministering to and with our Armed Forces personnel. Discovering the connecting links that strengthens our network of new friends and colleagues in reaching the military, discipling the military, and providing opportunities for service in the Kingdom of God was worth the effort to attend this conference. New ideas and the sharing of best practices gave me a wealth of resources to enhance and improve ministry to the military personnel in our community. This includes active duty, reserve and guard, and retired military personnel. The joy of knowing that we have a brief moment in time to connect with the military is shared in a joint venture with other churches and para-church organizations for His Kingdom purpose. We are in this effort together. As Jesus taught us "Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven."
